NSW police have arrested 333 people on more than 500 charges in a single night, as they try to crack down on drunken violence.
Extra police officers converged on Sydney CBD, Surry Hills and Kings Cross on Friday as NSW did its bit in the nationwide Operation Unite.
The 516 charges were for offences ranging from assault and affray to drug possession and robbery.
Police charged 96 people with assault, including a man who allegedly king hit an officer at Ryde Police Station.
They caught 176 people drink-driving, and 15 disqualified drivers behind the wheel.
Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli said it was alarming that police had to make so many arrests.
"I find it hard to believe that despite all the messages police have been sending to the community, that this many people could act so irresponsibly," he said.
Police also seized 1.7 litres of the illegal drug GBL at Darlinghurst.
They arrested a 24-year-old Italian national, and charged him with supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
Dados interessantes a considerar:
